Both involve the application of a thin layer of polyester to a window to alter the light, heat and, UV passing through the glass. In our minds, that’s about where the similarities end.

Tint has its roots in the automotive world, and tint for car windows is specifically designed to work on automotive glass. The word “tint” comes from the original method of dying the product for application to vehicles. Flat glass film is created by a completely different process and is warranted for as long as you own your home. An automotive tint is designed and intended to absorb the sun’s energy thereby lessening the amount of the sun’s energy passing through the glass. Tint falls under a set of laws that limit how dark and/or reflective a tint can be; these vary by country, province or state. Homes and businesses do not fall under any legislation so there’s a wide variety of film choices available.
